Preparing for the Big Day

Commencement is a celebration, a culmination of years of work towards a degree or credential. There are several steps to complete before you can participate in Commencement. The following checklists will help you ensure you meet the requirements and deadlines.

Tickets

Candidates who have filed their paperwork by the specified deadline and have been approved to walk at Commencement may order up to eight guest tickets. Additional tickets may be available depending upon the number of candidates attending each ceremony.

Ordering Tickets

Candidates who have filed their paperwork on time and have been approved to participate at Commencement must confirm their Intent to Participate via the Commencement Web site May 6 through May 13 in order to receive Commencement tickets.

Candidates who file their paperwork late or who do not confirm their "Intent to Participate" May 6 through May 13 cannot be guaranteed the maximum number of guest tickets. Tickets will be distributed May 19-31, 2008 at University Theatre/Humanities 400.

Caps and Gowns and Other Graduation Paraphernalia

The 2008 Grad Fair will be held May 6-8 in the New Student Commons, Room 302. It is your one-stop shop for everything you'll need.

Caps and gowns will be available for purchase

• Bachelor's degree cap, gown and tassel ($39.95 + tax)
• Master's degree cap, gown, hood and tassel ($65.95 + tax)
• Teacher Credential candidates should purchase the cap and gown corresponding to the highest degree you have earned.
• Beginning May 9, Bachelor's and Master's caps and gowns may be purchased at the UCR Campus Store.

Doctoral Gowns, Hoods, Caps and Tassels are not available at Grad Fair:

• Ph.D. candidates who wish to purchase a blue UC doctoral gown, tam and hood must place their orders at the UCR Campus Store before Friday, April 18
• Ph.D. candidates who wish to rent a traditional black doctoral gown, hood, mortarboard and tassel ($62.95 + tax) may do so at the UCR Campus Store April 7 - May 2, 2008

Announcements, Photographs and Memorabilia

For information about ordering graduation announcements, graduation portraits, diploma frames, class rings and other items, visit the UCR Campus Store web site. Graduation announcements are also available through ASUCR Exchange.

Commencement Photographs

The UCR Alumni Association has arranged for a commercial photographer to photograph graduates individually as they cross the stage. Proofs and information on ordering prints will be mailed to participants at no cost or obligation.

Memorabilia/Gifts

Commencement T-shirts will be available for purchase before and after each ceremony. The UCR Campus Store will be open for your last minute purchases and a variety of graduation needs such as film, batteries, etc. Congratulatory flower bouquets and leis will be available for purchase at the ceremony.
